Working in partnership with professionals to improve outcomes for children and young people through Welfare Services.
Work with Schools
- Targeted intervention to reduce persistent absenteeism.
- Assisting senior leaders in planning strategies to improve attendance.
- Analyse registers code and advise schools where necessary of appropriate action.
- Advice and support for schools pertaining to pupils who have identified needs that impact their attendance/punctuality.
- Advice for schools related to attendance, including Children Missing Education, Elective Home Education, Exclusions and Local Authority Home Tuition.
- Support for schools to identify and manage entrenched patterns of absence.
- Advice for schools on how to be prepared for an Ofsted Inspection.
- Case management – using time-focused interventions with the most appropriate and effective ways to improve individual pupil attendance.
- Develop and maintain strong lines of communication and robust protocols with school attendance leads.
- Facilitate attendance audits:
-review attendance policies, systems and strategies.
-identify areas of improvement and/or adaptation of protocol to ensure best practice. - Maintain a strong emphasis on preventative methods/interventions.
- Attend meetings which include school staff, external professionals, pupils and parents/carers.
- Provide regular electronic summaries of agreed actions and record of discussions.
- Act as intermediary between school and parents/carers.
Work with Parents / Carers
- Provide advice and support for parents/carers whilst informing them of their legal responsibilities.
- Sign post to appropriate services when needed.
- Liaise with parents/carers by way of written correspondence, telephone conversation and home visits to discuss attendance and agree an action plan.
- Carryout home visits regarding safeguarding concerns whilst liaising with the schools designated safeguarding leads.
Work with Health and Police
- Targeted intervention with Health professionals including Child And Adolescent And Mental Health Service (CAMHS), substance misuse and the Police.
- Work and liaise with local Police.
Local Authority intervention
- Delivery of all statutory enforcement duties:
- Send warnings (in line with local authority guidance).
- Refer to the local authority for Fixed Penalty Notices.
- Initiate pre-court meetings with local authority representatives.
- Compile evidence for witness statements in relation to court proceedings where it is deemed conducive for statutory action.
- Liaise with designated safeguarding leads, Children Social Care Youth Offending Service (YOS) and other professionals regarding at risk pupils.
- Contribute to Child Protection and Child In Need plans.
- Attend professional’s meetings with Children’s Social Care.
Work with Parents / Carers
